Hello everyone, long time no news but hopefully the large revision bump over the previous release should hopefully show a lot of work has been done even if things were quiet here online.

Some major changes forced numerous delays, but each and every change was very positive. Most importantly Hailte is now based on libtorrent 0.14. That brings with it disk cache support and a 'managed torrent' queue system. The list of other changes are well worth reading too http://code.rasterbar.com/libtorrent/br … /ChangeLog. To get an idea of how the queue system works you should read that section of the libtorrent reference. I will really have to rewrite that to an end user description.

Optional port randomization has been added, both the main port and the DHT one. Numerous internal settings and values have now been exposed through the UI to give users increased control should they wish. The defaults should suffice for most. Halite now plays nice with UAC but that changes deserves special attention so pay heed:

Important for people upgrading!

When installing through the MSI file download, Halite will make a registry entry pointing it to use the local Application Data directory for all configuration files. Users should manually copy any existing files from an older Halite version to that directory. The recommended files and folders to copy are:

Halite.xml
BitTorrent.xml
IPFilter.bin
DHTState.bin
resume/*
torrents/*

These changes were necessary to make Halite fully compatible with User Account Control. To revert to 'portable mode' whereby all config information will be saved alongside the executable simply delete that registry key (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Halite\path). If you only ever used the standalone download release this will not be necessary.

Known 'big' issues
'Queue View' mode is not supported on Windows 2000.
Sorting in 'Queue View' mode is currently not functional under XP.
CPU usage spikes if the file tab is left open for a torrent with a large number of separate files.

Known glaring omissions
Translations not included with this release.
No proxy support.
Doesn't scrape trackers.
Partfile system still very confusing.

All these known things are on the high priority to-do list.

On a technical note this Halite snapshot is built with Visual Studio 2008 using libtorrent 0.14, Boost 1.36, OpenSSL 0.9.8i and STLSoft 1.9.61

Uhm....Eóin, mind if I ask you a little more explanations about the actual correct configuration? I'm a little at loss with the cache thing, and I'm very curious about the plugins section....how do they work?

Can't be having this things happening:
both users get a warning each, for improper behaviour.

Tuxman had already been warned before, but, since I wanted to reset all Warnings for Christmas, let's call this an anticipated gift: this will count as "First Warning" for you.
