I've addressed some of the issues raised with the last snapshot and think it's ready for a stable release. But here it is as an RC to run it past some of you guys first.

Edit: Just uploaded an second RC which fixes a small issue I came across.

Download it over on SourceForge.

   2) Updated to OpenSSL 0.98k
   3) Updated to Boost 1.40
   4) Updated to libtorrent 0.14.6
      - UPnP bug fixed.

Re: Release 0.3.2 RC 2

Thank you Eóin.

Could you upload a x86 binary to SourceForfe.

Going to try it as soon as I find something worth downloading.

Re: Release 0.3.2 RC 2

Anyone who already downloaded the RC should switch to the RC 2 build just uploaded.

Re: Release 0.3.2 RC 2

Hi!

I'm trying to compile halite with visual studio 2008.

I'm trying to learn to work with c++ and understanding bittorrent.

Can you make (Eóin) a package with everything complete to compile or explain where and how to get it?

Cause I tried to solve every error on compiling and I'm stuck on linking errors.

If anyone can help...

Thanks!

Thanks but i've already been there...

And it is a little outdated.

Now there are new versions of everything and the src doesn't have everything needed.

I've managed to solve the linking part but the program gives an error on start.

Maybe I'm using the wrong libs ou dll's.

That's why I'm asking which ones should I use and where to download them.

Thanks.

Re: Release 0.3.2 RC 2

As a first thing, welcome on board, Growery. wink

Then, I must ask you to take a look at the Section RULES: the General Information is actually for releases and....well, General Information, really.

Sorry, but I have to issue a "first warning" for you (additional information inside the Rules). Reading the Rules IS important, especially when you're a new user.

Anyway, you should be looking around in the Troubleshooting section of the forum, see if there's some recent available topic on compiling issues (I think I spotted a recent one not long ago) and add your experience there. If you can't find a specific topic you can use, feel free to make one there, so people can see your problem and propose a solution.

Do not use Release topics again for troubleshooting, thank you.

Re: Release 0.3.2 RC 2

Tw@in 28 sorry but since it was concerning this new release I tought I could make my requests here.

Cause i'm just asking for the right libs, dll's and the right way to compile.

Created one here: http://www.binarynotions.com/forum/view … 3674#p3674

Thanks.

Re: Release 0.3.2 RC 2

Tried 3.2 RC yesterday.  I'm pretty impressed with how far it has come.  However there a various number of features which serve as deal-breaker for me while at least Vuze and utorrent both have them (embedded or through plugin).

1. Labels + Label directory creation and storage + Move on complete to X:\label directories (sure I can easily tweak per torrent settings and create the directories myself beforehand but automation there would be welcome).
1a.  If Halite gets 1, an easy way to browse the labels would be nice.  Vuze, uTorrent and Deluge all have that, too.  This function is pretty important to me cause I keep a huge library of torrents in (biggest yet around 1000+ torrents).  It makes browsing for them easier than having to search from explorer every time.
2. Some sort of automatic bandwidth adjustment to eliminate connection chokes.
Not that important:
(3. Still haven't checked the scheduler much but an option to autoshutdown Windows when all tasks -downloads and all seeding tasks- are done would be really nice cause I leave the pc on during the night to seed but sometimes seeding a file will only take 2 hours out of the 8-10 I leave it unattended so it's nice to be able to shutdown the pc once my torrents are done seeding).
(4. Vuze and Deluge both have an automatic IPfilter import function.  While its usefulness is debatable, it's nice having it instead of manually updating it)

Some more notes:

1. There seems to be a difference between reported upload on torrents and reported global upload.  It's around 10kb/s of difference on my PC.  I take it it's some sort of overhead cause I even see some dl speed (around 2kB/s) when I'm not downloading anything
2. Seeding just one torrent doesn't seem to choke the connection, even though my upload is on unlimited, which is good (although I'm not sure if my connection manages to survive in general with torrent clients because of good router QoS settings).  I'll try adding more torrents but so far so good. EDIT: Seeding my maximum number of allowed torrents seems to work normally here.  I'll try playing some online game eventually to check on any real lag issues but so far it's pretty good not having the connection choked (again, not sure if it's my router).  MORE EDIT : Yup, there's definitely lag, although it's not as horrible as say letting Vuze without limit or autospeed.  It's behaving ok most of the time if you don't do anything that requires low lag, but otherwise, you either need to limit the upload or have an automatic bandwidth management to be able to play online.
3. No seeding ETA yet?
4.  Still no "Open File" dialog from the Files tab.  I don't remember whether it's libtorrent itself that's barring that function or the dev just needs to add it.
5.  Shouldn't the numbers in parentheses report the swarm seed/peer numbers?  When I'm seeding, there's no such number for seeds when it should.  When seeding, it's important to know how many seeds are still online, especially in private trackers.
6 (related to the above).  The Copies seen should be active.  It's important seeding information, especially for private trackers as sometimes I tend to force a torrent to seed when the copies reported are too few or when seeds are too few(basically the same info really, so if you can at least fix 5, 6 should be irrelevant unless you're SuperSeeding or are the initial seed).
7. I came across something.  First of all, Halite apparently doesn't accept decimals for its ratio entry, which is bad.  Secondly, it can't incorporate any new ratio setting, unless the program is closed and the XML values overwritten on exit.  Once I set the ratio limit to 1 and restarted the program, the torrent stopped like it should.
8. Several torrents I started with Halite don't get ratios.  While I start and complete the torrent with Halite alone, Halite shows 0MB for downloaded data and does not have a ratio for the torrent.

Basically it's now a client that can actually substitute many of the non-top clients pretty well, its bandwidth usage (down or up) is rather good even if I don't set limits (I think I'm actually getting better speeds with it than Vuze), I didn't encounter any serious bugs with it (unlike Deluge, which is good, too, but the bugs are seriously killing it) but for someone like me who needs the torrent client to serve as a media library/explorer, it still needs a bit of work to be able to full substitute Vuze or utorrent as the main client.
